Why am I annoyed at GW2?
Is it because I love GW so much that I dont want people and dev support to move over to the sequel?
I dont know.
Come to think about it, I loathe the idea that they have to call it "guild wars 2":/
I mean, sure, does it really matter what its called, but somehow it really sets it up as milking of the franchise. it might be the new guild wars 2, but it aint guild wars and nothing ever will?
come to think of it, I dont think I have ever played a sequel to an original game that I liked more than the original.
and a part of me is also like this: why even bother playing GW2, when GW3 is probably around the corner 2 years after, and then you have to start all over again.
its what sucks about online games. they are only as fun as when people are flocking to them and are interested.
the failure of NWN2 recently made me think. that game killed NWNs thriving community, just by being a bad sequel. the community just couldnt survive it and thats the problem. if its bad sometimes it can backfire.
not that I think that GW2 will be bad, but I am still annoyed over it, despite not knowing anything about it really. why is it called guild wars 2? it seems cheap. guild wars is better than this.? than resorting to numbered sequels like final fantasy 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,10-2,11,12,13... and so on..
I dont know why I find it disturbing. its very strange. I should be so psyched for the game but instead I have gone into depression and dont really play the original anymore. I cant make myself do anything in the game. "GW2 is on the way. everyone will be gone soon. time to jump ship from this world" kind of feeling is what saddens my heart

Stop. It's a game, and they're a game company. The fact that they're "milking the franchise" is not anything to be complaining about; they're trying to make money off of what has turned out to be a successful game by turning it into a successful line of games.
And tbh, if you don't buy a game because the next one will arrive in 2 years...idk what to tell you. As if the $50 you spend on GW2 won't be worth the 2 years of entertainment it gives you before the next game comes out.

Ah man don't feel bad ! GW2 is gonna rock big time! Persistant world, World PvP and alot more. I know GW2 will be a big change for people because they are used to a campaign style of play with instances but being in a persistant world so much fun. New classes, new races, new everything
They started to put some info on the plaync site. Maybe they are getting ready to gives us more info on GW:EN and GW2 ?

Yeah, it's a win/lose situations but i think the win will outweigh the loss.. we're loosing guildwars (though it'll still be around for those who refuse to move over to gw2) and then there is Guild wars 2, which already sounds pretty exciting.. and because Guild Wars is a great game imo GW2 will be even better. ... especially if there is an Auction House

Guild Wars won't 'lose' that much. Guild Wars will still be supported by ArenaNet (events). It just won't be getting expansions. And I'm glad. Guild Wars don't need anymore expansions after Eye of the North. It sort of ruins Guild Wars. The way it works with expansions, I don't like it. It's not seemless. Guild Wars 2 will be different. I welcome the change.

Look at the success of Guild Wars and imagine what a joyride it's going to be when they add all their experience and the things that they, as developers, have learned into the sequel.
I'm considering sticking with the Guild Wars franchise even though i was adamant that i would move on in October to fresh pastures.
I went to bed smiling after i read the gamespot and gamespy articles!

Guild Wars 2 is not the most original name, but then, how can the creators of the game link the franchise to the previous game? Can't name it Guild Wars: ________ because they did that with chapters. So, Gotta show folks it's brought to you by....without saying "brought to you by....". Some sequals suffer from association with previous versions of the game, but sometimes it is not so much "milking" the franchise, but saying "remember the really cool game we made? We'll here's an even cooler version of it"....Hard to do that without saying it's a sequal....btw System Shock 2, waaaaay better than System SHock (looking forward to Bioshock....not many people know the relationship to the previous games, but then, it's not truely a sequal)...I still think there is a possibility that after NCSoft/ANet are confident the community is aware of the product and know how it fits into the Guild Wars universe, they can be free to form focus groups to consider new and improved possible names....heck, given their record, they may even hold a "Name the Game" contest...hmmmmm....put your thinking caps on, kiddies!

I understand and feel a little bit of what the OP is feeling about the game. It's entirely understandable, natural and human. Doesn't matter that it is a game.
And, despite "it only being a game," it's very much part of a basic life lesson that we all eventually have to learn:
All things eventually come to an end, and once you have to face that reality it can cast a shadow over your present happiness. The trick is to not let it ruin what you have at the moment. Besides, there's always the morbid possibility that these moments may be all all we have left.
As I have grown older, I have had to face this realization, and sure, it's not something altogether pleasant to have to acknowledge.
But, such is life...and death. Real and virtual.

Guild Wars 2 is a long way off, it would not be unreasonable to think that the name and logo are tentative. Regardless, there's nothing wrong with the name Guild Wars 2. It's the sequel to Guild Wars.
Secretly I hope they change the Guild Wars 2 logo... but I digress. I play games, not logos!

I welcome it. In the PC Gamer article, they admit that the current mode of a completely new ch ever 6 months, with new profs and skills, was untenable.
As new chapters come out, skills are underpowered and overpowered, plus some work together in totally unanticipated ways, and you have a metagame that hugely flawed. Nerfs happen, things that need fixing in PvP wind up hurting PvE'ers, there's a big imbalance between PvP and PvE. We wind up where we are now: so many broken aspects of the game, situations where there are acknowledged problems but no solutions (or Anet doesn't feel like addressing them).
They need to start from scratch with a new mechanic where these things don't happen, where Anet constantly is changing the rules. They've got such a backlog of problems right now that they can't possibly catch up, and we are seeing promises broken, and Gaile looking like a complete tool with her responses and double-speak and self-contradictions.

You may just feel like they kind of sold-out to the crowd. They're trying a lot of things that's traditional for MMO's, so you may not like the fact that GW2 won't be as "unique" as GW1 was.
However, unlike NWN2 (it's still a decent game, I'm playing it right now, but it does feel kind of rehased. I can tell/rant to you in fuller detail in a PM, heh), GW2 will be published by the exact same people. So I'm taking comfort into that.
I'm just glad it won't be as party-based, if party-based at all, as Guild Wars 1 was. 8 people is just way too many to have to find for a PUG.

Some acomplishments such as titles will be trasferable to gw2 in some way in the ancestors thingy.
So to the OP:
Enjoy the game right now mate!
When its time to move on to a greater game, then think about it then.
For now just enjoy the present! =D

A level grinding required mmo (with level-difference means so-much that it actually needs a sidekick system) that features the world and lore of our beloved Guild Wars.
Though I have to admit, that advertisment "Guild Wars Campaigns CANCELLED " from PCgamer is definitely doing more harm than hype to GW... Even non-GW players knows GW is ending and now holding off their purchases.
With GW:EN said to grant unique stuffs into GW2, the GW2 economy is broken before it even starts. Well, just hope GW2 is not as bad as PCgamer described it could be (cross fingers!)
